How to split a bill with tip

  1. Enter the total bill. Use the full amount from the receipt, including any tax.
  2. Pick a tip percentage. 15–20% is standard in the US.
  3. Set the number of people — the calculator divides the total (bill + tip) evenly and shows the per-person amount right away.
  4. Round up if you like — enable Round total up in Options so each person pays a clean whole number.

Even vs. itemized split

An even split divides the grand total by the number of people — fast and fair when everyone ordered similar amounts. An itemized split pays for individual orders plus a proportional share of tax and tip — fairer when one person had a $40 steak and another had a salad. If orders were roughly balanced, even split is almost always the right call.

Tipping etiquette when splitting

Tip is a shared expense of the meal, so it is calculated on the full bill and split along with everything else. If one person insists on tipping more (it is their server, or a birthday celebration), let them add extra on top — do not pressure the group to overtip. When paying with separate cards, ask the server to split the charge evenly, then tip on your slice. When one person fronts the bill, use the per-person amount here and request it via your payment app.
