Grade Calculator

A final grade combines all your work in a course according to category weights. Multiply each category’s score by its weight (as a decimal), then sum the results. Example: homework (20%) at 90, midterm (30%) at 85, final (50%) at 88 → (90×0.20) + (85×0.30) + (88×0.50) = 87.5%.

A simple grade is a single percentage from one assignment (e.g. 85% on a quiz). A weighted grade combines multiple components with different importance — homework might count for 20% and the final exam for 50%. Use simple for individual scores, weighted for course totals.

Use the “Final needed” mode. Enter your current grade, the final exam’s weight (often 20–50% in colleges), and your target grade. The calculator shows the exact score you need on the final to hit your goal.

GPA stands for Grade Point Average — a numerical representation of your average grades on a 4.0 scale. 4.0 = straight A’s, 3.0 = a B average, 2.0 = a C average. Most US colleges and graduate schools use GPA for admissions and scholarships.

On the standard 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0.0. Plus/minus systems split each grade further: A− = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B− = 2.7, and so on. Some schools count A+ as 4.0; others give it 4.3.

In most US schools a passing grade is 60% or higher (D or above). However many programs require 70% (C or above) to count toward graduation, and college courses often need a C or C+ for major requirements.

Yes, if the final has significant weight. With an 85% going into a 30%-weight final and a 95% on the final, your overall grade rises to 88%. Use the “Final needed” mode to plan exactly what you need.

The calculator uses the US grading system (A–F, 0–100% scale, 4.0 GPA). The percentage math works for any 0–100% grading system; switch the grading scale dropdown to Plus/Minus if your school uses one. Other systems aren’t built in yet.
